Job Title: Product Manager, Digital Product & Experience
American Chemical Society | Washington, DC (Hybrid)
About the Role
The Digital Product and Experience team is seeking a strategic, execution-oriented Product Manager to lead a portfolio of digital product initiatives across ACS.org and adjacent digital experiences. This role is for a systems thinker who thrives at the intersection of strategy and delivery — someone who brings new thinking to hard problems, moves work forward without waiting for perfect conditions, and is as comfortable shaping what's next as executing what's now.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Roadmap
- Own a defined segment of the ACS digital experience, serving as the accountable product lead for its outcomes and direction
- Build and maintain roadmaps that reflect user needs and ecosystems, and organizational priorities, identifying pivot points and reprioritization needs as conditions evolve
- Recommend prioritization based on impact and ROI and translate tradeoffs into clear narratives for leadership and stakeholders
- Define product KPIs and post-launch milestones and translate outcomes into compelling narratives that connect product performance to member and business impact
Continuous Discovery
- Independently run research to identify friction points and opportunities to build a user and member experience that earns trust and keeps people coming back
- Strong discovery and requirements skills, with the ability to work from ambiguous inputs and produce clear, actionable outputs
- Understand loyalty drivers and align product enhancements to deepen member retention
- Track trends in digital membership experiences across comparable organizations
- Support emerging initiatives in personalization, experience architecture, and AI-enhanced products
Delivery & Execution
- Manage cross-functional product work from planning through release, including go/no go milestone communication to development and production
- Facilitate workshops and collaboration sessions to refine features and scope
- Design and conduct assumption and A/B testing to validate solutions
- Proactively identify issues — user flow, logistical, or technical — and bring forward solutions
- Mediate and resolve priority conflicts between stakeholders
- Monitor post-launch performance and iterate based on outcomes
Collaboration
- Partner with development, design, UX research, content strategy, and analytics across the full product lifecycle
- Act as a credible partner to internal stakeholders, translating organizational goals into digital product requirements
- Contribute to a team culture grounded in curiosity, honest inquiry, and learning from what doesn't work
Qualifications
- 8 years of digital product management experience with end-to-end ownership of web or digital products
- Proven continuous discovery practice — independently running research, using feedback to drive roadmap decisions, tracking the competitive landscape
- Experience with customer journey mapping and translating findings into prioritized product decisions
- Comfort with analytics, A/B testing, and behavioral data to validate solutions and drive prioritization
- Enough technical fluency to work productively with developers on integrations and platform tradeoffs
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including mediating priority conflicts across a complex organization
- Ability to build and present a clear business case — synthesizing data, tradeoffs, and strategic context into a story that drives alignment and decision-making
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and confidently to varied audiences
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with AI tools in a product context — evaluating AI-powered features, integrating LLM capabilities, or building product strategy around emerging AI use cases
- Familiarity with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or similar enterprise CMS platforms
- Background in or curiosity about chemistry, scientific publishing, or the scientific community
Preferred Behaviors:
- Curious: Asks questions and challenges assumptions
- Self-directed: Finds a path forward without a fully defined brief
- Resilient: Treats failure as data and keeps moving
