Position Overview: 

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Principal Product Manager to lead our product innovation and strategy for the TrueNAS software and hardware product line. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in product strategy, development, and lifecycle management, with a deep understanding of the storage industry and enterprise-level customers' needs.


This position is remote with preference given to those who can travel to our Campbell, CA office periodically. Base Pay Range

The base pay range of this position is $175,000 to  $250,000 USD annually.

Please note that the provided range reflects the pay spectrum for positions within the same job category as the one to which this position belongs. The final offer will consider various factors, such as location, education, and prior experience, to ensure a comprehensive and fair compensation assessment.

Expected Posting Timelines

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, a maximum of 90 days.

The Day-to-Day

The essential functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following. 

  • Define and execute the product strategy and roadmap for the TrueNAS product line, ensuring it aligns with the company's vision and market demands.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, including engineering, marketing, sales, and customer service, to define and deliver high-quality products that provide competitive advantages and drive revenue while meeting customer needs and strategic business objectives
  • Engage with customers, partners, and stakeholders to gather product feedback and identify new opportunities for innovation and growth.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and technological advancements to inform product development and positioning.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to scope and prioritize product roadmaps, based on customer needs, market trends, and business priorities.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop go-to-market strategies, product positioning, pricing, and messaging that resonate with target audiences.
  • Oversee the product lifecycle management process from concept to phase-out. Leading efforts on pricing and packaging, while ensuring that all product decisions are data-driven.
  • Drive the product team to achieve high performance and develop a strong product culture within the organization.
  • Represent the company and the TrueNAS product line at industry events, conferences, and media engagements.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on the product line's performance, market feedback, and strategic initiatives.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.


Education and Experience

We have identified the following programs, experience, and knowledge that have helped others find success in this role at TrueNAS. We understand though that knowledge comes from many forms of learning and experiences. Above all, we consider a person’s potential impact in the role and value their unique path to this point in their career.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or equivalent is a plus
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing product lines related to storage solutions or enterprise software
  • Proven track record of developing and launching successful products in the storage or related high-technology sectors
  • Deep understanding of data storage software/hardware technology and market, as well as other adjacent infrastructure technologies
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams
  • Strategic thinker with a strong analytical mindset and the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to forge strong relationships with business partners and customers
  • Preferred Experience: Solid understanding of Open Source and OpenCore related business models.
